What is Dry Needling?

Dry Needling in a modern medical treatment that is revolutionary to PT as we know it.  This treatment uses a small, solid filament needle to harness the body's natural healing processes by penetrating the skin to stimulate the underlying neural, muscular, and connective tissues.  The benefit for you is control of pain, improvement in motion, and promotion healing.  Dry Needling is just part of comprehensive treatment plan and should be used alongside our other proven treatment techniques.

Dry Needling is best thought of a reset button for the body.  Like pressing CTRL-ALT-DELETE on your computer, Dry Needling can be used to reboot the body and return you to a more normal function.  The treatment doesn't stop there however, we must retrain your body's muscles, joints, and even nerves to improve your movement patterns to alleviate your symptoms longterm.  We then gradually reload the muscle to prevent the return of symptoms and keep you doing what you love.

Does It Hurt?

Client may report a range of sensations as the needles treats the dysfunctional tissue, but none should be inherently painful.  We understand that you may be wary of needles however even the most anxious of patients rarely have issue with this treatment.  In fact many ask for this treatment again.

Why is it called "Dry" Needling?

Dry Needling refers to the fact that no medication is being injected into the tissue.  The needle used is a small, solid needle that has a rounded tip unlike the piercing types that most people associate with needles.  This rounded tip allows for a less pain and less tissue damage during the treatment.

Is It Acupuncture?

No.  Acupuncture is built upon Traditional Chinese Medicine, treating of diseases through altering the flow of energy in the body.  Dry Needling is a modern medical treatment based on measurable biochemical and neurological changes to the body that we utilize to treat a wide range of conditions, both chronic and acute.
